The appreciation of artificial mountain stone is a particular approach of traditional Chinese literati culture. The artificial mountain stone is not only a kind of garden decoration. It also carries the traditional literati’s concept of philosophy and of the universe. This kind of thought is very close to the essence of Oriental culture and has permeated into the veins of all the Chinese people. How does the once glorious literati society confront the challenge of the new era under the impact of the Western culture, and at the same time renew its traditional culture within the veins? This is indeed a difficult question. The artificial mountain stone I invent with stainless steel actually pursuits a way to answer the question. Interestingly, the artificial mountain stone made of stainless steel and the preservation of it are now widely accepted in many places around the world. It has become the collection of contemporary ”literati” in the world just as the ancient Chinese literati collected and worshiped the stone. In the occasion of Steel and Iron Sculpture Festival, it is my hope to select stone material in Taiwan and to duplicate it, making it the first stainless steeled artificial mountain stone made in Taiwan.
