The citizens’ impression of Kaohsiung city is marine city and harbor city. I take waves as the theme of the public artwork, with the intention to easily form a collective imagination and experience of the citizens that can be applied to their common sense of the city.
The waves have soft lines. The almost minimal soft lines are basic elements of form, pure and perfect.
The minimal soft lines of the waves are in contrast to the rigidity of modern industrial city. The formal opposition leads to the softening of that rigidity.
Soft figuration is given to the metal material in order to break the conventional impression of steel, which is metallic and hard. The completed form thus radiates different features than those of its original and typical connotation.
