Concept

Pascal is a French scientist and philosopher. In 1646, he applied principles of atmospheric pressure and liquid connection to invent mercury barometer. The principle is thus called the Pascal Principle, and the pressure unit one newton puts on a square meter is called one pascal. Pascal has made great contribution to humans’ industrialization process. In Taiwan, Kaohsiung is the most industrialized city. In its peak, more the 70% of the citizens made a living by working in the industry. They could have been blessed by Pascal’s achievements and at the same time have earned the city its reputation as “culture desert”. Today, Kaohsiung city has taken off its blue-collared suit and put on the glamorous outfit. People walk into modern restaurants, on renovated riverside and drink afternoon tea casually. Their empty talk is around culture or related activities while they appear to be proud and vain. The heavy reality has become history, while the non-simultaneous reaction shoots out shiny splash. Is it the delight of finding a spring? Just ask how Pascal feels.
